Glen Seator took the simple materials and circumstances of everyday life and with them created monumental dramas of human consciousness. Rebuilding the places that surrounded him and the terrain under his feet, he gave form to a collection of architectural reconstructions that undermined the statement, "I am here." These large-scale masterpieces inspired a generation of artists in the 1990s to rethink architecture as a material and subject of sculpture. Before that, Seator realized approximately 120 works that are virtually unknown to the public. Glen Seator: Making Things Moving Places reveals for the first time the entire body of sculptural work produced from 1980 to 2002. The volumes are organized into 14 workbooks that reconstruct Seator's work process step by step, using the raw materials of the artist's archive, including his notes, plans, drawings, photographs and personal statements. Together the volumes form a portable version of the archive and give a lively and personal view into the process of making objects.
