Editorial Reviews About the Author Dana Brooks is a professor and dean at West Virginia University College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. He received his AA degree from Hagerstown Junior College, BS from Towson State University, and MS and EdD from West Virginia University. He has published and presented nationally and internationally in the area of sport sociology. Brooks is also co-author of Diversity and Social Justice in College Sports. He has authored or co-authored manuscripts that have appeared in Quest, Sports Management Review, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Journal of Physical Education and Recreation, and The Journal of African American Men. He teaches African Americans in Sport and Sociology of Sport. His numerous honors and awards include Dean s Recognition Award from the College of Health Professions, Towson University Alumni Association; Martin Luther King, Jr., Achievement Award, WVU Center for Black Culture and Research; WVU Social Justice Award; and the Martin Luther King Living the Dream Award, State of West Virginia. Brooks is a fellow in the National Academy of Kinesiology and served as president of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He recently was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from Hagerstown Community College.

Ronald Althouse is a professor of sociology, a past chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and director of the Survey and Research Center at West Virginia University. He received his MA and PhD in sociology from the University of Minnesota. Althouse s research interests and publications have focused on worker s risk and worker s health, health care delivery, and health systems. He has contributed to the literature on athletic participation and is committed to efforts focused on social justice in sports.
