Accordingly, Dynes's excellent annotated bibliography is particularly timely, especially since it has been a decade since the publication of the last similarly definitive work, Vern Bullough's Annotated Bibliography of Homosexuality ( LJ 3/1/77), which, despite its title, had few annotations. Arranged in 150 subject categories, the entries in the present work are all annotated and describe over 2500 items on male homosexuality and lesbianism, including a considerable number of foreign-language sources. Fine, brief introductory paragraphs precede each section, and the evaluative annotations themselves are exceedingly literate. A subject index and personal names index provide easy access.
