Book info: Homosexuality: A Research Guide (Garland Reference Library of Social Science) (Hardcover, 871 pages) – Garland Publishing, 1987. Language: English.

First published in 1987, this book encompasses a broad range interdisciplinary research into homosexuality -- displaying a full spectrum of points of view -- and, given that the major traditions of modern homosexual research began in Europe, is not restricted to works in English.. In general topics that are densely covered in the literature are presented in this guide selectively, with some less studied topics, such as Economics and Music, fleshed out with signposts to more comprehensive research. It seeks to not only mirror existing publications, but also to stimulate new work by pinpointing neglected themes and methods. This book will be of interest to students of sociology. Editorial Reviews From Library Journal The worldwide AIDS epidemic has served to focus anew considerable attention on the subject of homosexuality. Accordingly, Dynes's excellent annotated bibliography is particularly timely, especially since it has been a decade since the publication of the last similarly definitive work, Vern Bullough's Annotated Bibliography of Homosexuality ( LJ 3/1/77), which, despite its title, had few annotations. Arranged in 150 subject categories, the entries in the present work are all annotated and describe over 2500 items on male homosexuality and lesbianism, including a considerable number of foreign-language sources. Fine, brief introductory paragraphs precede each section, and the evaluative annotations themselves are exceedingly literate. A subject index and personal names index provide easy access. Very highly recommended. Richard W. Grefrath, Univ. of Nevada Lib., Reno
