About the Author Alvin So, former Head of the Division of Social Science of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is currently Chair Professor of that Division. Professor So is the author, editor, and co-editor of a dozen titles on democracy in Hong Kong, formation of social classes in China and Asia, and development and globalization in China. He is a member of the editorial boards of several major international journals in the field. Some of his works in English have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Italian.William Tay, Professor Emeritus of Comparative Literature and Chinese Studies at the University of California, San Diego and Professor Emeritus of Humanities at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is the President of INK, a monthly publication that has been honored by six annual Golden Tripod Awards in the category of arts and literature from the Taipei government. Professor Tay is the author, translator, and editor of more than two dozens of titles in comparative literature, world literature, literary theory, and film studies. Some of his writings have been translated into English, German, Italian, Japanese, and Chinese.
